ACT Prep Course
|
- Do you guarantee a certain score increase?
- It is impossible ethically for us to guarantee an outcome.
|
- What is the average increase in ACT score as a result of the BTP course?
- For more than ten years Baylor Test Prep has produced an average increase in excess of two points above each student's previously established high score. There are many factors that can contribute to this outcome. It is impossible for us to know what the actual score impact will be for a certain student.
|
- What is the total time commitment?
- About 24 hours total or the equivalent of one day. More than eleven hours of instruction; about ten hours of homework; and then 3 hours to take the ACT amount to about 24 hours effort for an average increase in excess of two points.
|
- What materials are used?
- BTP employs previously used ACTs, along with BTP's own Strategy Sheets and proprietary test taking tactics.
|
- What does the course entail?
- Five, two-hour & fifteen minute sessions with about an hour of homework between sessions.
|
- What is the largest increase a BTP student has ever experienced?
- 10 (ten) points. Twice. Seven points about seven times a year. Six point increases happen often.

BTP Platinum
|
- What is involved?
- Complete beginning-to-end college counseling, including help deciding which tests to take and when, choosing schools, writing essays, and chasing financial aid. Our goal is to help find the best college for you at the most reasonable cost. You will understand all of your choices so that when senior spring rolls around, there will be many college acceptances to consider. We (1) ensure that each of our Platinum students understands all relevant college and college application information so that there is no chance for regret later, (2) relieve parents of the need to closely monitor this important process, and (3) help secure financial aid for each Platinum student, if desireable.
Each Platinum student's family receives the BTP Platinum Packet, a Nebraska High School Student's guide to the entire College Application Process. The BTP Platinum Packet is a comprehensive guide to all aspects of the process, including many hard-to-find data bases, as well as a college-offered, merit-based scholarship list.
Past Platinum students have attended Yale, University of Pennsylvania, Dartmouth, Swarthmore, Pomona, Amherst, Northwestern, Macalester, Rose-Hulmon, Grinnell, Gustavus Adolphos, Washington University at St. Louis, the JD Edwards Program at UNL, Colorado School of the Mines, Rhodes, Brown, Middlebury, Emory, and many others.

SAT/PSAT Prep Course
|
- Should I take the SAT or ACT?
- Depends. Historically the SAT was preferred by schools on the coast and the ACT by Midwestern colleges. Now nearly every college and university accepts either test. So take your choice.
The two share about 75% of content: reading, math, and now grammar and writing. Thus, about 25% of the questions for each are unique to that test.
Two thoughts. One: students with strong vocabularies (meaning solid reading habits) may want to try the SAT because the SAT Verbal score is largely affected by vocabulary knowledge. Two: the SAT is more generous with time. Students, who are anxiety ridden over the frugal time allowed on the ACT, might consider the SAT.
